Can you please tell us a bit about how the ‘Breakfast for Boobies’ event came to fruition and who was involved?
The event was organized by Bidvest Insurance as well as their new partner company FMI. With October being Breast Cancer Awareness month, we wanted to host an event for this cause and link it back to FMI’s revolutionary new critical illness product that covers against this disease. We wanted it to be an informative session to educate women about early detection, symptoms and the realities once diagnosed with Breast Cancer.
The event was in aid of breast cancer awareness. What were some of the issues and messages covered during the event?
Our main speaker was FMI brand ambassador; Mandy Cremer – who is a two-time breast cancer survivor- she spoke about her journey and how she found peace and strength to deal with Breast Cancer as well the financial impacts of her journey with cancer. We also heard from Physio and Lymphedema therapist, Donnée Ness who spoke on the importance of checking yourself for lumps, and trusting your instincts, as a women – you know your body the best.
Aside from the speakers, were there any other special guests?
We had the very enigmatic PJ Powers as the MC who kept all the ladies entertained, as well as Satin Candy’s Umhlanga branch manager, Sandra Thomas, talking about the importance of finding the right size bra.
What message do you think left the biggest impression on the ladies in attendance?
I think all the ladies who attended felt the importance of having critical illness cover, as well as checking yourself regularly for lumps, which is what Breast Cancer awareness month is all about.
Thanks to everyone who attended and all those who donated their old bras which were in turn given to The Pink Drive who assist poverty-stricken women in shelters.
